What is the 'eduroam' wireless network I see at CSU East Bay?

Problem or Question:

What is 'eduroam'

Solution or Answer:

eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other eduroam participating institutions by simply using any device configured for their native campus ‘eduroam’ service.

Details of this service can be found at: https://www.eduroam.us/

CSU East Bay has joined the eduroam community. This simplifies wireless access for visitors to CSU East Bay from other eduroam members as well as our students, faculty, and staff when they visit other eduroam institutions.

At CSU East Bay eduroam will be deployed to mimic all functionality that currently exists with the current ‘CSUEB’ 802.1x/WPA2 Enterprise wireless and should be configurable in a nearly identical manner.

The username (netid) must include the domain for the clients home/host institution’s ‘realm’. For CSU East Bay the realm is ‘csueastbay.edu’.
